![]() The BELL’s Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches were used with an investigation to see if cockroaches can pull their own body mass. We start by asking students, “Do you think a cockroach can pull its own body mass?” During the Cockroach Pull, students predict how many grams a cockroach can pull. The cockroach and the total number grams are weighed. Students are excited to see their cockroach pull the sled with a load of gram weights on board. The next step in the investigation will be to ask students if they can pull their own body mass. We then compare the cockroach strength to that of the students. The third step is to investigate with the BELL’s black millipede. The results are always surprising.
