Caring for Others

Part of our reading curriculum is a story, “The Memory Box.”  The story is about an elderly person who is not thinking as clearly as they use to.  Most of the fifth grade students have experienced a loved one that isn’t remembering like they one did or is in a nursing home.  It is hard sometimes to understand.  Miss Maria Crane talked about her job working at Tecumseh Place and Blissfield Place for assisted living.  Our fifth graders were moved with compassion and have a little better understanding of the disease that cause memory loss.  The fifth graders planted a plant, made a pot sleeve and designed a greeting card for the residences in hopes to make them smile and brighten their day!

The fifth grade students grew plants in the BELL.  Miss Maria Crane did a presentation on Alzheimer's Disease.  Students were very respectful fifth graders who had wonderful questions.

They decorated pots and wrote notes to give to Alzheimer's patients.
