![]() SECOND-GRADERS' EYE - OPENING EXPERIENCESecond-grade students at Blissfield Elementary School studied the location and function of parts of the eye in the Science unit, "Light and Our Eyes". To further enhance their knowledge and appreciation of the intricate composition of the eye, Mrs. Langton, a teacher from the Monroe Intermediate School district, was invited to come and demonstrate the make-up of a sheep's eye. Her lesson included safety tips to protect the fragile eye, as well as harmful substances that hurt the eye, like drugs, alcohol, and cigarettes. The excited children then donned goggles and plastic gloves. Under the supervision of parent and granparent volunteers, each student cut away each part of the sheep eye assigned to them with special scissors, and placed the parts on designated spots of a worksheet with listed eye parts. Each classroom of children came from that memorable experience with valuable knowledge to appreciate and care for their precious eyes. Below are some "eye-opening" photos from the young explorers!Mrs. Terri Langton, instructor, demonstrates sheep eye dissection as well as proper care of our eyes.
