Lifetime Fitness Syllabus

LIFETIME FITNESS SYLLABUS 

The purpose of Lifetime Fitness is to introduce cardiovascular fitness and strength training while introducing a variety of individual and team sports.  Students will gain information on methods to maintain an acceptable level of total fitness outside of class with the primary focus being on nutrition and heart rates.  

SAMPLE WEEKLY ROUTINE  

Sport Unit – 2 days each week

Cardiovascular workout – 2 days each week

Strength development – 1 day each week  

Sport Units

  DRESS FOR CLASS 

All clothing worn must meet school dress code requirements.Can not be the same clothes that is worn for other classes

1.       SHIRT – t-shirt or sweatshirt - cannot have advertisement for T.A.O. D. (tobacco, alcohol other drugs).

2.       PANTS – Shorts, sweats

3.       HATS – can only be worn outside

4.       SHOES – Must be worn at all times and must be an athletic shoe (no dress shoes, work boots).  No open toed shoes are allowed (sandals or flip flops).   

GRADING

  1. Active participation

Ø      10 points per day possible

Ø      Dressing for class, warm-up participation, class participation

Ø      Attitude, behavior

  1. Skill Testing

Ø      10 points / unit

Ø      Visual observation during unit

Ø      Basic skills, knowledge of unit 

The majority of the grade is based on ACTIVE PARTICIPATION in class – if you do not participate, you WILL NOT pass.

1.       You must be in class to earn points

2.       Make-up work is allowed for ABSENCES ONLY

Ø      You have one (1) week from the absence to make-up the work

Ø      It is YOUR (student) responsibility to see the teacher about making up the work – NOT the teacher.

Ø      Make-up sheets are available in the make-up box between the bleachers.

3.       Not dressing for class will result in points being deducted

Ø      DRESS for class is MANDATORY.

This means you will be marked down for not dressing.  Not dressing results in a minus five (-5) points for the day.  You are allowed to make-up a non-dress day by staying after school or coming in before school and running 1 ½ miles on the track (6 laps).  This is the only way a non-dress can be made up.  If you do not want to run the make-up, remember to dress everyday for class.  

GRADING SCALE

95-100  = A

90-94    = A-

80-89    = B

70-79    = C

65-69    = D

60-64    = D-

0-59      = F
